About the hamstrings
The hamstrings are three muscles down the back of the thigh: biceps femoris on the outside, semitendinosus and semimembranosus on the inside. Most of the group crosses both the hip and the knee, which gives it two jobs that can conflict. At the hip it extends, pulling the thigh backwards. At the knee it flexes, bending the leg.
That double role is why the group needs two kinds of exercise. Hip hinges such as Romanian deadlifts and good mornings load the hamstrings while the knee stays relatively fixed and the hip travels. Leg curls do the opposite, working knee flexion with the hip fixed. Training only one pattern leaves half of what the muscle does untouched, and hinges alone are the more common omission in the other direction, since curls are easy to reach for and hinges are not.
