About the forearms
The forearm holds two opposing groups. On the palm side, the flexors bend the wrist and curl the fingers, which is what closes a grip. On the back, the extensors straighten the wrist and open the hand. The brachioradialis runs along the thumb side and helps bend the elbow rather than the wrist, which is why it grows from curling as much as from anything aimed at the forearm.
Most forearm training is a by-product. Every row, pulldown, deadlift and carry demands that the hand stays closed on the bar for the duration of the set, and grip is often what fails first. Direct work exists, mainly wrist curls and extensions for the two groups and holds or carries for the grip itself, and it is most useful when grip is the thing limiting the rest of your training.
