How to do it
- Stand on the side rails, start the belt at a walking speed, and step on once it is moving steadily.
- Build to your running speed in stages rather than jumping straight to the target pace.
- Run in the middle of the belt with the torso tall and the gaze forward, not down at the console.
- Let the arms swing freely instead of holding the rails, so the stride stays natural.
- Land under the hips with a quick cadence rather than reaching for the front of the belt.
- Slow the belt gradually at the end and walk for a minute before stepping off.
Common mistakes
- Holding the handrails while running, which alters posture and unloads the stride.
- Looking down at the belt, which rotates the body forward and weakens running posture.
- Drifting to the back of the belt, which forces a rushed stride and risks stepping off the edge.
- Stepping straight onto a fast-moving belt, which is where most treadmill falls happen.
