How to do it

  1. Stand tall with the arms hanging at the sides and the eyes forward.
  2. Step forward onto one foot and lift the opposite knee toward the chest.
  3. Wrap both hands around the shin or just below the knee and pull it in gently.
  4. Keep the stance leg long and the torso upright; do not collapse into a slouch.
  5. Hold the hug for a brief pause, then release and step forward.
  6. Repeat on the other side and keep walking as you alternate.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning the chest forward onto the thigh instead of standing tall.
  • Softening the stance knee so the hug becomes a balance wobble.
  • Yanking the knee so hard that the lumbar spine rounds.
  • Rushing the walk so there is no pause at the top of the hug.
