How to do it

  1. Sit tall on a chair with one foot flat on the floor and the hands resting on the thighs.
  2. Lift the other foot just off the floor so the ankle can move without scraping.
  3. Keep the shin and knee still so the circle comes from the ankle, not the hip.
  4. Trace a slow, complete circle with the foot in one direction.
  5. Reverse and trace the same size circle the other way.
  6. Switch feet and repeat, staying seated and quiet through the trunk.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the whole leg swing from the hip instead of circling at the ankle.
  • Rushing large, sloppy loops that skip inversion or eversion.
  • Resting the working heel on the floor so the circle cannot complete.
  • Slumping the trunk, which turns a seated drill into a fidget.
