How to do it

  1. Secure the legs under the decline bench rollers.
  2. Support a manageable dumbbell with both hands behind the head.
  3. Keep the pelvis settled on the pad and the neck aligned with the trunk.
  4. Curl the upper back away from the bench by shortening the abdominal wall.
  5. Pause within the small crunch range without sitting fully upright.
  6. Lower under control while keeping the dumbbell steady.

Common mistakes

  • Turning the small crunch into a full hip-driven sit-up.
  • Pulling the head forward with the hands or weight.
  • Swinging the dumbbell to start the upward movement.
  • Lifting the pelvis away from the bench.
